In May 2021, African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation (ACAEDF) marked her 7^th year anniversary with the theme ‘Children for Change Celebration – CHICC’.

The event started officially on Friday 21st of May 2021 with a press briefing where the history and challenges of the organization were discussed together with the need for good structural education for children. The final match of the novelty football competition which started on Monday 17th of May was also concluded on Friday 21^st May between team David and team Anja Senior boys, where team David won.

The grand event of the anniversary celebration was the children-centered fashion show which took place on Tuesday 25th of May after the boxing competition which occurred earlier that day. The fashion show featured fifty (50) different African attires worn by 25 children showcasing the world of African beauty which was targeted at raising children to be change agents and to achieve support for the anniversary project – Access to good education, clean and healthy water for thousands of inhabitants with children being the majority in Riverine Communities https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YcTZ1mr5_w5SIHLIqBxoMmn74eXxLEOx/view?usp=drivesdk  (please access the link using google drive) and Parliament of Hope building completion.

The event was live streamed and only opened to few members of the public to attend physically following the covid-19 guidelines. There were lots of food, drinks, and music. It was a beautiful and colorful night packed with lots of fun.

One of ACAEDF’s child development priority in education is Science Education and this is not far-fetched as it is important to national development, promotes responsible citizenship, improve problem-solving skills and critical thinking amongst others.

Presently, there is a lack of science laboratories in the public high schools here in Akwa-Ibom state, thus depriving the school children of practical science work and the benefits that come with learning the practical aspect of science. In today’s world, good science education cannot be complete without the actual practices of the classroom taught theories, which prompted the need to set up a modern science laboratory for the children here at our centre and other children living around our environment.

This project which covers Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics Laboratories is aimed at producing the future generations of scientists who will practically solve problems using science. Since the completion of the project in April 2021, the children have had 45 science practical experiment sessions facilitated by the new Science Practical Instructor.

This amazing project was supported by Karan Tilani through Children Philanthropy, Singapore.

Information Technology and the use of computer specifically has long become the new global norm in this technology-driven age which has made it essential for both the children at our center and other children within the rural communities to learn how to use computer devices. April this year, an ICT training facility comprising of Ten (10) computer systems was set up to promote computer learning, skills, and appreciation within the children from an early age.

Due to the high cost of ICT facilities, frequent electricity interruptions, lack of ICT facilities & manpower in public schools and lack of maintenance culture, over 60% of Nigerian children do not have access to ICT training in public schools, and that is why this project is very significant.

The children at the centre have continually expressed their joy and excitement over the opportunity to sit before a computer and learn how to use it effectively.

The project came alive with the total support of Children Philanthropy and Karan Tilani, Singapore.

With support from Karan Tilani, World of Diamonds Group and Children Philanthropy, two children (Godwin & Sarah) at African Children’s Aid Education and Development Foundation who had developed an interest in agriculture got their dreams fulfilled when they began practical training lessons on tomatoes cultivation from December 2020 to April 2021.

Godwin and Sarah began with learning the techniques involved from preparing the seeds, getting the soil ready for the crop, to caring for the seedlings until they started germinating. The process continued till the germination took place 3 weeks later and the seedlings were transplanted to recycled bags with stands which they used as the final settlement for the germinated seedlings. About 3000 stands of tomatoes were ready to be watered, fertilized, and cared for for another 3 months till they fruited.

It was a joy observing the children alongside their trainer who together and collectively grew and successfully cultivated 3000 stands of tomatoes within a period of 4 months. The proceeds from the farm were used at the centre kitchen for meal preparations.

Hopefully in future, the tomatoes project can get a nod for export to Singapore.
